Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise is steeped in history, and its fans want to feel like they’re immersed in historical periods. When Ubisoft wanted to send a creative press kit to select journalists, Catalyst leveraged the game’s setting — the American Revolution — and created a hand-sewn American flag from that period with the Assassin’s Creed mark in place of the stars. We packed the flag in a wood box with a handwritten letter addressed to each journalist. Nylon versions of the flag were made available for sale, but the heavy cotton press kit version remained exclusive and became a much-sought collector’s item. The kit received major kudos from gamers and helped created positive online buzz prior to the game’s launch.
